Day 25: Travel Day. This morning we woke up and got our rig put back together as quickly as possible, as California was expecting strong winds throughout the state. We have experienced strong winds a couple times on this trip, and it can be a white knuckle experience. We got on the road before the they really kicked up, and our ride was smooth sailing and again, a beautiful drive through green rolling hills, red oak, and farmland and vineyards.
Our first stop was in Gilroy for fuel. Gilroy, Ca is the garlic capitol of the world. It is also home to the nastiest truck stop bathrooms we have seen in nearly four weeks on the road. I discovered my “line in the sand” with Owen and his “public bathroom/ get naked/ touch everything” antics. That line exists in the truck stop restroom in Gilroy Ca. Owen managed to deal with the change in routine (he’ll thank me someday) and we got back on the road bound for a one night stop in Vacaville, Ca.
We set up for the night at the Vineyard RV Park. While i still have yet to see the vineyard, there is a wild turkey patrolling the grounds. Owen desperately wanted to catch him, which we strongly discouraged.
We grabbed some dinner at California Burrito. While I was walking back to the car Elle looked out the window and told Tara “I like him. Do you think you’d want to marry him?” Tara answered “I would want to marry him.” Eleanor closed out the brief conversation saying “Good. But I think he might be homeless.” I guess it’s time to shave.
We took dinner to a nearby park with a huge castle themed playground the kids thoroughly enjoyed. After we returned to the “Vineyard” where the kids ran out their remaining energy before bed.
Off to Medford tomorrow. About 3550 miles traveled so far, 750 to go.
